Onsite and virtual event for and by flipped educators
There have been many interesting studies done about iPads in the classroom and the effects on both students and teachers. I’ve pulled together a list of various study results regarding iPads in the classroom below. Check out just how much of an influence studies show iPads in the classroom are having on education.
Though the iPad debacle at Los Angeles schools might have slowed-down the expansion of one-to-one computer programs, more and more schools are adopting the practice.
Today, and later this week in Part Two, experienced educators will share their advice on how to successfully implement such a program. I'm also eager to publish ideas from readers, and hope to receive many of them.

"Digital citizenship education empowers students to make thoughtful decisions and develop a sound digital foundation for the rest of their lives.

Digital Citizenship is a holistic and positive approach to helping students learn how to be safe and secure, as well as smart and effective participants in a digital world. That means helping them understand their rights and responsibilities, recognize the benefits and risks, and realize the personal and ethical implications of their actions. Helping a student become a good digital citizen cuts across all curricular disciplines."
"Google Forms are amazing tools, allowing you to do some really advanced tricks with forms as the front-end and spreadsheets at the heart. Once you get started you’ll be amazed at just how much you can achieve with this basic premise. Today we’ll look at how to create a self-grading quiz using Google Forms. From there, you’ll no doubt find a lot more ways to use forms and spreadsheets."
"By giving students the opportunity to view and playback lessons via video, you free up class time for more cognitively difficult tasks. At EdTechTeacher, we have worked with many educators on flipping their classes and have noticed some common issues that often thwart their initial forays."
We’ve built an education platform that is customizing the way students learn by offering more than 32,000 tutorials on a variety of academic topics taught by thousands of teachers. This vibrant, first-of-its-kind learning community helps teachers enrich their classrooms, empowers students to learn in their own way, and provides a pathway to an affordable college degree.
I strongly believe that technology is going to completely revolutionize the classroom. But when are we going to start addressing the negative aspects of the one-to-one classroom?
lingro's mission is to create an on-line environment that allows anyone learning a language to quickly look up and learn the vocabulary most important to them. Capable of turning all websites clickable and definable. Very cool
Luckily, managing a classroom of student's with laptops is mostly about managing the students. This means that you use the same tools for classroom management with laptops as you use for basic classroom management.
The following examples emphasize management strategies that work for any classroom, but are especially important with laptops
" For the past three years, Digital Wish has been studying the process of implementing one-computer-per-child programs in 28 schools. Digital Wish is an educational non-profit on a mission to bring technology to American classrooms in order to prepare students to thrive in the global economy. The team just completed a $1.125M Federal ARRA stimulus grant, delivering computers, weekly educator trainings, a complete IT curriculum, and support to the 28 schools. Their trainers modeled the entire process of technology adoption and progressively reduced the initiative planning time from 18 months to just 6 weeks, saving schools tremendous amounts of time and money. Both teachers and students are reporting a wide range of gains including increased engagement in learning, technological proficiency, and dramatic improvements in the understanding of internet safety issues. The 2011-2012 data report is attached.

Online notice boards are a neat way of getting a shared space to collect ideas from your class for a brainstorm. Or for a teacher to post resources for a topic. Students could ask questions about a topic which you (or each other) can then answer. If you want some ideas on how to use them, then here are 19 ways to use wallwisher (and similar) in the classroom via Tom Barrett.
There is no blinking the fact that the type of students we teach today are completely different from last century's. We , definitely, need to look at some of the skills we, as teachers, need to equip ourselves with to better live up to the challenge. Among all the challenges we would have in education, there is not as daunting a challenge as catching students focus and getting them engaged in the learning process. For this particular reason, and in addition to the skills I initially mentioned in 21st Century Teaching Skills article, I would like to provide you with another list of some equally important digital skills that you, as a teacher, need to seriously consider if you want to pave the way for the 21st century teaching. I have added a list of web tools under each skill for teachers to better exploit it.
I am an enthusiastic supporter and practitioner of the "Flipped Classroom." I see it as a very tangible reality for improving the learning outcomes of college students, the mainstream understands how and why it works. This infographic, which I picked up via David Wicks' blog, visually communicates several of the key concepts of the Flipped Classroom.
An easy to understand version of the national standards that can be used with young students
Have you ever wondered what it really means to transform your district, school, or classroom to a 1:1 environment? It is a term we hear a lot about, but not all can see it or experience it. With the takeoff of the iPad and its successor, the iPad 2, the education world is abuzz with the idea of moving towards a 1:1 environment. But is it practical? For some, it is a dream, a wish; for others, it is slowly becoming a reality. So what does a 1:1 environment look like? How will the students and teachers react? Is it the right direction to go?
Here are five lessons I’ve learned about redefining classroom instruction with technology
